Dive Master
The SDI Divemaster Course is the first professional level certification. During this course you will be challenged and learn what it is like to work with divers as they experience the underwater world for the first time and you will learn how to lead already certified divers and show them some of your favourite critters or dive sites. Your SDI Instructor will also teach you how to manage divers, work the dive deck of a boat, and conduct safe and enjoyable dives. Other things you can expect to learn is diving Physics and Physiology, and being a professional SDI Divemaster, your skills will be refined to demonstration quality and your knowledge increased to that of a professional. After you have completed the SDI Divemaster course you can move onto the SDI Assistant Instructor Course where you will learn more about academic presentations and have the ability to teach certain SDI specialties.
Qualifications on graduation:
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:
- Assist an active SDI instructor during approved diving courses provided the activities are similar to the graduate's prior training.
- Supervise and conduct dives for certified divers provided the activities are similar to the graduate's prior training.
Prerequisites
The Student must:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years old, unless otherwise stated.
- Be certified as Advanced Diver (advanced certification must include, Deep and Night & Limited visibility specialties).
- Be certified as Rescue Diver.
- Hold a current CPR and First Aid certification (i.e. a valid and current CPR1st Certification).
- Have a current medical examination for diving.
- Have a minimum of forty (40) logged dives.
The Student must:
- Give a minimum of five (5) briefs/debriefs.
- Show preparation, planning, and control in dive management and diving activities.
- Guide a minimum of four (4) dives with varying sites and environmental conditions.
Duration:
- A minimum of forty (40) hours.
Required Equipment
Basic SCUBA equipment for diving leaders, your instructor will supply you with a list of requirements upon booking the course.

Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements
Confined Water Requirements:
- Ten (10) open water dives lasting longer than twenty (20) minutes each.
- Training dives must not exceed forty (40) meter / one hundred thirty (130) feet.
- Upon successful completion of the dives – students must complete their logbooks and the instructor must sign off on the completed dives.
- Students must demonstrate all the skills required in the previous courses at Divemaster quality in leadership level equipment.
Skills include:
- Satisfactorily complete the SDI Divemaster written examination or equivalent.
- Complete all water requirements.
- Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.

Assistant Instructor
The SDI Assistant instructor course is designed for you to gain practical teaching experience with an active SDI Instructor or Instructor Trainer. You will help an Instructor teach an Open Water Scuba Diver course, Advanced Diver Course, and Rescue Diver Course. Your SDI Instructor will also teach you to;
- Prepare lesson plans
- Give academic presentations
- General dive management techniques
Qualifications of Graduates
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may;
- Teach and Certify students in the Skin Diver course.
- Conduct the Inactive Diver/Refresher course.
- Conduct the Knowledge Quest review in the Open Water Scuba Diver course under the guidance of an active instructor.
- Assist an active SDI instructor during approved diving courses provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training.
- Supervise and conduct dives for certified divers provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training.
- Lead dives 3 & 4 of the Open Water diver course under indirect supervision so long as all required skills have been evaluated by the instructor and the student is proficient prior to the start of dives 3 and 4.

Student Pre-Requisites
The Student must:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- Be a certified Divemaster.
- Hold a current CPR and First Aid certification (i.e. a valid and current CPROX Certification).
- Have a current dive medical.
- Have a minimum of forty (40) logged dives.
Course Structure and Duration
The student must assist an active instructor with the following classes. The student must attend all classes, confined water and open water sessions:
- One (1) complete Open Water Scuba Diver Course
- Four (4) Specialty Courses
- One (1) Rescue Course.
Required Equipment
Basic SDI Open Water SCUBA equipment for diving leaders your instructor will give you a list of required equipment.
Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements
The student must perform one presentation in each of the courses assisted under the direct supervision of an active instructor.
