Ex-HMAS Adelaide

The newest of our recreational dive sites is the Ex-HMAS Adelaide. It was scuttled on 13th April 2011 and is quickly becoming a world class artificial reef, with cuttlefish, yellowtail and oldwives already taking up residence. Scuba Shack Charters schedules dives regularly on weekends and can arrange weekday dives.

It is only a short 30 minute boat trip from Ettalong Public Wharf, our pick up location. However, for group bookings of 4 or more to the Ex–HMAS Adelaide dive site we can arrange pick up from Terrigal Haven or Palm Beach. Ettalong is located only 1 hour from Sydney and has the added benefit of easily accessible parking and wharf pick up and drop off.

The Dive Site

Ex-HMAS Adelaide was scuttled on a beautiful sunny day on 13th April 2011. She now lies 1.8km off Avoca Beach, at a depth of approximately 35 meters of water and continues to slowly bed into the sandy bottom.
Barnacle varieties and algae are now growing all over the ship and fish life has already taken residence.
Scuba Shack Charters has access to two commercial moorings and dive these regularly.
Drift down to the bow and take the classic "Titanic" picture, then make your way to the Captain's chair where you can sit and take in the view. Move along to midship and see the mast and view the
helicopter hangers.
You must have a valid dive certification to scuba dive the Ex-HMAS Adelaide wreck and have been diving in the last 12 months. The wreck is suited to divers of all levels, however some experience is required before penetration is permitted.
